Timeless Kitchen Designs

Today more than ever Timeless Kitchen Design Trends can dictate how we can make our money go further or make sure we get value for our money.

With that in mind let’s look at the value of renovating our kitchen and if so, what can we do to make it timeless and what can that look like.

Here are 11 Timeless Kitchen Design Trends for 2024.

Timeless Kitchen Design Trends

Ah, the kitchen — the heart of every home, where culinary magic happens and memories are made over simmering pots and sizzling pans.

My take on achieving “11 Timeless Kitchen Design Trends” in your Kitchen.

1. Kitchen Planning

Never underestimate the value of good Planning. Deciding on placement of your appliances and your work triangle can make all the difference to the function of your Kitchen.

When renovating, mapping out where your services (plumbing and Electrical) are can save you lots of dollar$.

2. Doors

Choosing your Door/Cabinet finish can be daunting. I have always erred on the side of practical and budget.

The Timeless Kitchen Trends lend themselves to a Classic look, which is the Moulded door patterns. They do give a luxe finish to any kitchen but do come with a price tag.

You can still get that Luxe feel with Flat Panel (Laminate) doors by choice of finish.

3. Hardware

Hardware can make a huge difference to the final look of a Kitchen. For example: If you have chosen the Moulded doors you would lean towards a classic maybe decorative Hardware.

If you have chosen the Flat Panel Doors (Laminate) you may lean towards a more minimal looking hardware.

But you can mix that up and put more decorative handles on the Flat Panel and vice versa.

4. Drawers

To make any Kitchen Timeless, you really should put in as many drawers as you can.

This makes the space much more functional. No more on the floor searching at the back of a cupboard for something.

5. Cupboards

You will have to have some cupboards and the trick is to make them as functional as possible.

Use pull-out shelves inside cupboards, these are a cheaper option than drawers.

Put bins inside cupboards. and my favourite is in pantry cupboards to recess a shelf or two to accommodate larger items.

6. Appliances

What Appliances you choose can be determined by your budget. Don’t be dazzled by the latest features when it comes to the like of ovens.

When you think about it nobody will actually know what your oven can do unless they use it.

Appliances

For most home cooks a basic fan forced oven with roll out racks is all you will need.

Unless you are in the High End market and are getting a Stove/Range or do want the likes of Miele in your kitchen a basic oven will be more than enough

I think the fact that you put your oven in a tower and not under a bench will satisfy that Timeless Kitchen Design Trend.

7. Benchtops

Benchtops take up so much of the visual space in a Kitchen that choosing the right one for you can seem daunting.

Obviously Stone is the preference. But here in Australia with new regulations Engineered Stone is no longer an option.

Caesarstone is releasing a replacement stone that is said to be silica-free.

Granite and Marble are our first choices but not in everyone’s budget.

Laminate can be a great alternative, and a lot of their finishes look like stone and unless you touch the benchtop you would not know the difference.

To create that Timeless Kitchen Design no matter what you chose the Marble look finishes are the winners.

8. Flooring

Of course the most timeless and luxe flooring is Hardwood, but not all of us can afford to either install in a new build or reno. those who have it in their renovation please do not cover it up.

In saying that it does need to be maintained regularly, especially if you have fur babies.

Tiles are practical and are very hard-wearing and cost-effective. They need very little maintenance, and the range of finishes are endless, you can even get wood finished tiles laid in herringbone is a much cheaper option to hardwood.

Vinyl Plank is popular and inexpensive and how it is laid can give a timeless feature. for example, laid in a herringbone pattern would look almost like parquetry.

9. Island Bench

If space permits an Island bench is essential to a Timeless Kitchen Design Trend. And you don’t necessarily need a sink in the Island, I personally prefer to not have a sink in the Island as that gives you more working/serving space.

10.Choosing your Style

In my experience too often clients are anxious to make sure their choices are “on Trend” and will not effect Resale Value.

I will always encourage clients to choose what appeals to them, i.e. pleases their eye.

Unless you are flipping the property, it is going to be your home YOU have to like it.

And there is a multitude of styles you can create with just a few easy replaceable items/fixtures.

For example, Marble/Marble look and Stone/Stone look whether actual stone ore laminate will never go out of style.

Colours though can, so for your bigger more permanent fixtures stick to white, greys and if you like black. These colours can be incorporated into just about any style you may choose.

11. Lighting

As a Lighting Designer I think that the finishing touch for the final look and feel of any Timeless Kitchen Design Trend is the Lighting.

You can create pockets of Ambient light, areas of Task lighting as well as your overall illumination of your space.

Do Timeless Kitchen Trends Matter?

Trends can be used as a Guide on creating a complete style.

But in today’s market, it is not so much a specific Trend that you need to implement. I would advise making sure your kitchen is a flow-on or corner piece to making your whole home feel like YOUR Home.

Conclusion

Timeless Kitchen Design Trends are merely a guide to help you create a particular style and the components, colours, and finishes that make up a particular style.

As a whole Trends come and go and whether or not it is timeless I think relies on how practical the layout is and whether it is a joy to work in.

I see that the biggest takeaway from Covid is that we were all required to spend an unusual amount of time stuck in our homes. Which made us re evaluate our spaces and how we use them.
